I loved this. I’m right there with you every step of the way. What an epic storm that was! One time, I got caught on the back of a motorcycle during a surprise hail storm in August in Michigan. Ow! We had to pull over and seek shelter…was about 20 at the time ;)
Amazing how the smallest things make all the difference - if he hadn't spotted you, if a tree fell in a slightly different direction. This is a great story.
I can't imagine how terrifying that would be... especially in the dark, not being able to see the tops of the trees, not knowing where the next one was going to land. Incredible that snow can carry that much weight. I have been in some pretty intense wind storms, living on the coast... and going into the woods afterwards, seeing the absolute destruction always made me wonder what it must have sounded like, within the forest during the storm. It also made me incredibly grateful I wasn't standing in those trees! I'm glad you had a safe place to wait out the storm!
Thanks for comments, Jaime. It was kinda a beautiful terror. soft wet snow with unpredictable danger. About 2 years later we had snow on the beach itself.
Hi Bill, interesting story, especially with the tree missles falling all around you! I posted a stuck in the cold story as well: "out of Gas and Outof Luck" , you will enjoy it. It is under archives posted on February 20th.....or hit the link, this happened in Northern Michigan.

Hail on bike? Wow, now that could hurt! I’ve been in a lot of hail storms but never moving through on a motorcycle. Helmet? Thanks for sharing.
Of course not 😂
Yup,
them were the daze :)

Thank you, Patty, that’s life, near misses and hits… just depends where you are…. I appreciate you taking time to read.

I was then living in Redwood Estates. Had a jeep cj-5 and a Great Dane. My wife drove a vw bug. Thanks for the memories.
Travelers on the same journey via different paths… take care, Stephen.
